As a small kid, I grew up far from the ocean and always wished I could go surf like the kids in California or Hawai’i. Now I find myself living not far from the ocean and have taken up surfing. I tend to surf mostly from June to October in the Santa Cruz area as there are many nice breaks from the boardwalk all the way east to Capitola.
I use an Xcel 4/3 fullsuit that keeps me warm in the waters of Monterey Bay along with a six foot fish and ten foot foamie. I often push off from Cowell’s Cove and head to Steamer’s Lane, but I recommend the Pleasure Point break for folks new to the Santa Cruz/Capitola area.
