Many of the underpinnings of both Western History and the modern world had their genesis in ancient Greece or Rome. Both of these cultures could be breathtakingly brutal and yet amazingly transcendent, with ideas that would not reach full fruition until centuries later. As such, I highly recommend visiting the remnants of these cultures to any tourist who has the chance. I will soon be posting some good links to help other like minded souls find some of the wonderful gems of these ancient cultures across the Mediterranean.
