Early hominids, perhaps Homo habilis, probably began to speak to each other in protolanguages more than 2 million years ago as they knapped stone cutting tools and watched for predators. If you listen carefully though, … you can hear the echoes that the Universe speaks in from ~ 13.8 billion years ago. Mathematics is the language of Mother Nature and the Universe. It is the language of Science. There could be no cell phones, internet, cars, or modern civilization without it. Those that study it, get to peek into some of the deepest mysteries allowed to our minds. In addition, mathematics is the gateway to many of the best paying occupations in the world and an avenue of possible success for children everywhere. For these reasons, I am an advocate for the subject whenever the opportunity arises.
