One common topic of discussion amongst most parents of elementary school aged children is the best method for teaching their children mathematics and simple arithmetic. Many parents are math-phobic or unsure of where to start. The best book I have personally seen (and used) is Arithmetic for Parents by Ron Aharoni. Damn few research mathematicians write books aimed at helping parents out and even fewer are lucid and helpful. Arithmetic for Parents provides an excellent framework for passing on the core foundation of mathematics to youngsters. I highly recommend it. (I have no official or unofficial connection to Dr. Aharoni. I am in no way receiving anything in return for recommending his book. I don’t even know the guy, but his book is excellent.)
